Phonics

At Moldgreen Primary School we follow Little Wandle Letters and Sounds.

The children start their phonics journey accessing phase one in Nursery and move onto starting Little Wandle phonics in the Autumn Term of Reception. 

All children in Early Years and Key Stage One access Phonics daily following the little wandle lesson structures. These lessons help our children to become confident readers and writers and prepare them for their future work. Some children will access same day intervention to ensure they are confident with their grapheme recognition. 

Children read phonetically decodable books matched to the Little Wandle scheme at least 3x a week. In Early Years and Key Stage One the children follow the 3 part lesson structure highlighted in our school policy.

The children will bring home a phonics decodable book weekly which is carefully matched to their phonic phase. Alongside this they will bring a reading for fluency book which they can enjoy with an adult.
